Soundtrack Love | Before We Go

I swear, I have never listened to a movie soundtrack as perfect as BEFORE WE GO‘s. Not even my love for Warm Bodies‘ and Elizabethtown‘s respective OSTs can trump this one.

If you haven’t heard of it, it’s that super bokehlicious film co-produced, directed and starred in by the charming Chris Evans with his semi-love interest played by Alice Eve.

It’s also where this beautiful quote was from:

I’ve seen the movie twice or thrice now, so I can’t help but feel annoyed that I’ve never once been struck by its songs, until today. It’s so unusual for me to focus so much on the story line that I fail to appreciate the musical scoring or the songs in the background. Very unusual. It’s probably more likely for me not to finish my popcorn than to ignore the music in movies, and I love popcorn!

It’s probably easier to think of a reason, say them using these unfamiliar songs, then again, so did Warm Bodies.

Knowing myself, I’m very particular with the songs I listen to and I love discovering new ones especially those in movies or tv shows I watch, so why is it that I’m only figuring it now how well put together the soundtrack of this movie was?

I don’t really know how to answer that question too. All I know now is that, other than my favorite pop songs, fave pop indies and little bit of oldies, I have found my ultimate life playlist here, a playlist even so for when I’m driving. I mean, these songs will actually slow my heart rate down to normal when I’m super stressed or will keep my mind off rude drivers. These may even be songs I’ll listen to for when I want to believe that nothing can bring me down!

I’m listening to it right now and I literally haven’t even skipped a song yet! That’s how good it is!

I originally looked the OST up because I was looking for a particular song in a scene when the lead characters were in a hotel room at the end of the movie. A montage of them spending their last hours together while they were having fun, in a wholesome way was shown as the song is played. That song that captured my heart first among many others is Jason Collet‘s “Rave on Sad Songs“. Jason sounds like one of those romantic country balladeers and this song is just lovely.

So, I’m trying to narrow down my top favorites, but it really is quite hard to choose as ALL (I can’t stress that enough) of the songs are really good, so I kind of just grouped them together in all these little clusters instead.

Songs from the OST that I can listen to over and over again:

  1. Rave on Sad Songs – Jason Collet – This reminds me so much of Elizabethtown and its own OST
  2. Over & Out – Oliver North Boy Choir – This is soooo going into Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist!
  3. Song for Zula – Phosphorescent – was also used in that charmingly cute scene in TASM 2 when Peter was crossing the street with eyes focused only on Gwen.
  4. Best Part of Me – St. Leonards – also heard in Beauty and the Beast (only one of the few shows with a really great soundtrack)
  5. Restless Lover – Lesands – so Warm Bodies! I associate it with Delta Spirit‘s “Yamaha”
  6. The Alchemy Between Us – Young Galaxy – This is soooo going into Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist too!
  7. Into the Sea – Aidan Hawken (really feeling like going into the water now, aren’t you?)

Songs from the OST for when you are driving along a highway on a cliff overlooking the sea or when chasing sunsets on a long, chill road trip:

  1. Restless Lover – Lesands
  2. Sun Burns – Blue Boats – so M83‘s Midnight City!
  3. Burning Blue – Kowalski – so light and airy like a merengue! haha! must be fun to drive around with your windows down and this on your speakers
  4. Song for Zula – Phosphorescent
  5. The Alchemy Between Us – Young Galaxy
  6. So Here We Are – Bloc Party – great band! Brings back The OC memories, though I don’t think this song was on one of their “mixtapes”!
  7. Into the Sea – Aidan Hawken

Songs from the OST to listen to to help you calm your mind:

  1. Moonbeams – Family Band – the vocals are incredible!
  2. I Don’t – Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s – this one’s so easy to the ears with great vocals and guitars
  3. Flaws – Vancouver Sleep Clinic – can also associate with M83!
  4. Urchin – Labyrinth Ear – This is sooooo Stranger Things!!
  5. Only Yesterday – Taken by Trees – so dreamy + good vocals!

Songs from the OST that are also really good but I can’t put them up on the other lists:

  1. Where’s the Baby? – The Loud – I can definitely hear this on The Perks of Being a Wallflower OST
  2. Dark Morning – Count Basie Orchestra – This one’s definitely going into The Notebook‘s OST!

I think I just died, but I’m not complaining ‘coz I have hell lot of incredible songs to bring with me to my grave!

I think I wanna make more of this! A new series, maybe?

Tuesday Blues

Wasn’t able to go on a photowalk this morning. Wasn’t planning on going either. I had a hunch someone might report me for leaving our dog’s poop in the village park yesterday. Haha! Talk about being paranoid.

Plus, it also started raining, so I wouldn’t have been able to shoot anyway. It’s been raining since 7 this morning and the sun hasn’t come out since.

Also, my throat hurts again which sucks, but I wasn’t going to let that bum me out, not when I’m listening to Celine Dion‘s “I’m Alive” on repeat mode! I’ve been singing that to every karaoke night/day at home and it just makes me feel like I’m up on the clouds every time. Such a powerful, feel-good zzzong, isn’t it? (Can you share some of your favorite upbeat, feel-good, banyo-worthy songs as well? Say, JT‘s Can’t Stop The Feeling, Yes?).

So I made another project today, sort of a mantra for the year, inspired by that precious song.

To make it extra fancy, I translated “I’m alive and so are you” to French, with the help of the handy dandy Google Translate and voila!

I always loved calligraphy in B&W, but I must admit, pink and black also look soooo good together, don’t you think?

After having lunch, I had another light bulb moment and thought of making another project (ang daming time! Sorry na, sinusulit lang). This time, a short dramatic clip which was inspired by someone from Instagram. Note to self: find this talented human being after posting this! Apparently, I got the idea from his/her short clip of a pair of boots in the rain. It was brief, yet it was so beautiful and haunting at the same time, with the dramatic, natural lighting of course.

So I made a short clip myself and here it is. I’m glad I still have Ellie Goulding‘s cover of Kodaline‘s “All I Want” on my phone to listen to on days like this.

Glooooomy day

30 Day Writing Challenge: DAY 7

List 10 songs that you’re loving right now

I love this list! Hmmm, I definitely have a lot in mind, but the top 10 are (still not in any particular order):

  1. Don’t Say Goodbye, Say Goodnight – Binoculars
  2. Unsteady – X Ambassadors
  3. Premiere – Sophia Black
  4. Nothing Hurts Like This – SLO
  5. Gold Rays – Vinyl Pinups
  6. Night Changes – 1 Direction
  7. Shut Up and Dance – Walk The Moon
  8. High – Young Rising Sons
  9. I Wanna Get Better – Bleachers
  10. Dont’ Dream It’s Over – Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande’s Happy Hippies cover

I love listening to ALL of these lately. They’ve all been very catchy, even the slow songs like #1, #4, #6 and #10. If I were to make a mix-tape, then this would probably be it! I got 8tracks to thank for the indie songs though.

30 Day Writing Challenge: DAY 1

I was browsing through some of the blogs recommended by WordPress and saw Sudrobelle‘s. It was also on her blog where I got the idea to write 30 entries, one for each day, for a whole month. I know I’ve tried really hard to finish similar challenges before, but I never got to, not even one. So just to get myself to write more (even on days when I’m too tired to even look at my phone), I’m doing this challenge for 30 days! I’m not only keeping my fingers crossed, I’m gluing them altogether!!!

writing challenge

So for DAY 1, It says here that I should list 10 things that make me REALLY happy, and here they go (not in any particular order):

1) Dancing – I’m a frustrated dancer and “occasionally”, I burst into hardcore performances, but only in my room (minus the lifting and suspension into the air, of course), especially when I find a good song to play on loud speakers. I’d like to think that I can dance well and that thought alone, makes me really happy. Well, that can also be just the Endorphins that kicked in. Apparently, endorphins boost one’s self-esteem and gives a certain “high” or euphoric feeling. So, that’s why dancing literally makes me feel happy, plus, who doesn’t want to dance to a good song?

2) Art and artists– There’s nothing else that I can compare to, the happiness I get from ART (at least next to God and to the dearest people in my life)! I have paint running through my veins and I can die knowing that my eyes have feasted on thousands of different, unimaginably, beautiful creations by all sorts of artists—may they be photographers, calligraphers, painters, DIYers, crafters, etc.

10835041_10206310899237152_403540362958182218_o

3) Film Photography – No, this doesn’t make me happy, it made me into the addict that I am. I can’t leave the house without bringing at least one camera. I panic when I’m about to run out of films and cry at the thought that I have new photos waiting to be developed. Need I say more?

4) Food – I’m getting fat and flabby all for the love of foooooooooooooood! Whether I’m trying new restos or recipes or simply just watching cooking shows on tv, my mouth gets easily filled with overproduced saliva brought about by excessive addiction to/craving for food.

5) DIY – Nothing else feels greater than getting my hands all down and dirty! Every project or masterpiece I finish or hobby I get myself into brings incomparable excitement + happiness that often make my heart skip a beat!

6) MUSIC – This + dancing = my own personal anti-depressants. There’s nothing good music can’t cure or fix. And speaking of fix, I get my daily dose of good music from 8tracks and my sister’s player.

7) Crazy, Happy People – These people often make me laugh out loud or at least help contract my abdominal muscles so hard that I swear, get my abs toned instantly!

8) All Things Pretty – These can be great movies, or spectacular performances by extremely talented people or colorful books (literally and figuratively), well-decorated cafes or bedrooms, everything on pinterest or tumblr, the list goes on!

9) My family and B – They bring genuine and irreplaceable happiness. Not one material thing can ever surpass the happiness they give me, next to God.

10) God – He makes my heart whole again each and every time it gets broken.

P.S. Everything on the list tops the list, so don’t mind the superlatives!

Kaleidoscopey is not a word….yet!

I have been meaning to post something for November. After all, it’s my favorite month. Usually, I’d do it on weekends, unfortunately, even my weekends are jam-packed now! Told you, it’s my favorite time of the year, next to December, that is!

This isn’t the one where I write everything that I love about this month though. I’m saving that until after this month ends, but it wouldn’t be posted in November on my blog calendar so I’m posting one now, then the more special one in December—I’d like to work in real time! For now, I just decided to post something just because I’m itching to and because I still have a pending melodramatic entry on my journal that I haven’t found time to finish yet. So there goes my momentum and the memory of whatever dramatic thing happened to me then!

As I’m writing this by the way, I’m listening to this really good playlist I found on 8tracks. I thought I’d give it a try when I saw it on my feed just because the title says “LISTEN WITH HEADPHONES“. Kinda intriguing, right? So I did, but not with my headphones on because I prefer listening to music on loud speakers when I’m at home. Anyway the effect is just the same, if not uber amplified! Yeah, I’m weird like that.

True enough, I discovered songs that I would soon download onto my player just because I love to get lost in loud, kaleidoscopey (trippy and colorful) indie music when I’m alone aside from them being really trippy in a really good way. 🙂 That’s what I’d love to call music porn or earn porn? haha! Although I didn’t really like what they did to my all-time-favorite-stolen-song-from-bro, “She Looks so Perfect“.

While you’re at it, might as well watch the video below just to have an overall feeling of ecstacy. No, I’m not high, if that’s what you’re thinking. Or maybe I am! After all, it is still November and I am so hiiiiiiiigggghhhhhh on love, happiness and magic even though I think I’ve had much better birthdays in the past. I’m still so blessed and I saw it even more now than ever! 🙂 aaaahhhhhhhhh Amen. 🙂

I’d also like to share 2 videos I’ve seen yesterday and I’m giving both of my hands down to these guys. They’re partly the reason I’m feeling high as well. charot!

Here’s PLL‘s Janel Parrish aka Mona and her new boyfriend, apparently 🙂 It might not look as special, at least not for everyone, but like what Julianne Hough (my entry is soooo star-studded, I had to type in a lot of names in bold) said, you’d feel something real between these two while they were dancing. That’s real partnership, trusting and helping each other out. (FML! haha “not bitter” disclaimer here!!) Plus, I love the song they used! I’ve actually downloaded the song again after I’ve seen Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan‘s movie Bachelorette a few months ago and now I saw it in a whole new light in that rendition. Meganon? Daldal!

Then there’s this really amazing guy I discovered when I was looking for decent covers of Coldplay‘s “Yellow

Kaleidoscopey, aren’t they all? 😛
